  • TriHealth and Select Medical Finalize Agreement to Open TriHealth Rehabilitation Hospital
    November 05, 2014

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- TriHealth and Select Medical today announced they have completed an agreement to jointly operate a new 60-bed, acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital in 2016 in Keystone Park, along Interstate 71 and Dana Avenue. The joint venture, which was announced earlier this year and finalized this week, will create a limited liability company between TriHealth, a provider of acute care services in Cincinnati, and Select Medical, a national leader in providing inpatient rehabilitation services and long-term, acute hospital care.

TriHealth currently provides acute rehab services in a 16-bed unit at Bethesda North Hospital and in a 30-bed unit at Good Samaritan Hospital. Beginning later this fall, Select Medical will manage both units until the new hospital is opened. It will then serve as managing partner at the new, larger location, which will house the services of both units. Select Medical currently leases space in the Good Samaritan and Bethesda North Hospitals for its long-term acute care hospitals known as Select Specialty Hospitals. “We will better serve the community by combining our facilities and expertise at a single, larger, newer location,” said John Prout, President and Chief Executive Officer at TriHealth. “No one knows how to provide acute rehabilitation services better than Select Medical and we are honored to partner with it to open this exciting, leading-edge facility.”

“TriHealth Rehabilitation Hospital will serve Cincinnati’s growing need for inpatient rehabilitation. More people will have access to top level care, which will build on the patientfocused rehab services already offered at TriHealth,” said David S. Chernow, President and CEO of Select Medical. “TriHealth has a strong reputation for excellent medical care and our joint venture will only enhance that. We look forward to a long partnership to help people in Cincinnati rebuild lives.”

Once it is fully operational, the new hospital is expected to employ 180 therapists, nurses, and other specialists. It will offer the region the most advanced treatment available for patients with spinal cord and brain injuries, stroke, amputation, neurological disorders and musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions. Select Medical’s renowned Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey will provide significant support for the new hospital including specialized services, enhanced access to research and clinical education.
